    Default Vehicle playability

So far Huxley looks gorgeous, and looks like it offers at least as much playability as the unreal series. There's still a lot of us old tribes junkies that never drank the unreal tournament "tribes vengeance" edition coolaid. Many of us are still hoping for a game as fun with vehicles as T2 was.

Here's some examples of what I'm talking about:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FcDuM16P03U (Combined Arms)
    http://youtube.com/watch?v=VzT-CXxFPpA (Air Centric)

There were also some good points about planetside that attracted some of us:

From what everyone has seen, as far as vehicles are concerned, are we up against just another UT clone except for prettier graphics, or might this be the new nirvana of the wandering tribes crowd?

This game doesn't look like it's going to have very heavy emphasis on vehicular combat. From the actual gameplay vids, have we seen any vehicles actually shooting anything yet?

If people think Game X was the best game ever, why not just keep playing Game X? See: RTCW players, Quakeworld, etc

Well that was also a comment just in general; I doubt there's a videogame forum in existence where someone hasn't posted about how some older game is their favorite of all time and can't wait until someone else recreates the "feel" with a new game.

Then again I'm the kinda guy who still has a Genesis hooked up at home... hell I played Kid Chameleon earlier today.

I'm pretty sure vehicles won't be to huge of a problem in huxley. at least in the movies, there is only like 1 guy per fight driving around in one, and there are some indoor zones where i'm sure there wont be any vehicles at all.

Yeah, vehicles are fine and dandy as long as every other guy doesn't have one.

Then you pretty much have to find a rocket launcher or something with heavy fire, and that just ruins things.

So for a match of 60 vs. 60...maybe like 5 vehicles per side or so would feel appropriate. Tons of infantry to pick off and fight, but those ever destructive vehicles lurking.

Also, vehicles make battles seem twice as epic, not only with their size but the explosions created.

Think about what you're saying. If there's only 10 vehicles total in a single battleground, what will happen whenever an enemy sees those vehicles? They all concentrate their fire for 3 seconds until that vehicle is dead and they go back to normal grinding.

To counter the rediculously low survival rate of a vehicle in the game, they'd have to boost the armor/shields/whatnot and make the things behemoths. Then you get complaints that nobody can kill the things quickly enough. BFRs? Then you need to get into the system that would only allow 5 vehicles per side and consider what impact that would have on the behavior of the players. Battlefield series?

Now lets consider it from another perspective. Let anybody who wants to train those vehicles use them. Now you have alot of people spending their talent points focusing on vehicle training and come up with alot of people flying around and driving around having a great time.

With all these vehicles flying around you run into the same thing armies have across the world which is why many consider tanks and other armored vehicles quickly becoming obselete. You can spend a hundred thousand dollars on a transport and a $50 RPG can disable or completely destroy it.

Relevance in Huxley? People spend all their license points on vehicles while another ground pounder spends only a small amount to pick up an anti vehicular weapon that destroys the relatively weak vehicles. They're relatively weak because there are so many of them out there that they do not need to be behemoths to affect the actual fighting.

I have to agree with the original poster. Tribes 2 had the best vehicles in an FPS that I've ever seen. And the best thing is that game was created using the Torque Game Engine which is not nearly as complex and nice as the new engines these days. This game appears to be heavily influenced by UT in terms of playstyle it seems, but we do know they've been doing their best to create an MMO, not just a larger DM.

You obtain licenses to drive vehicles every 10 levels (not just vehicles either - correct me if im wrong), so If you wanted something to take a spin in at the first level bracket then I guess you could invest in the license to do so. Similar to the Planetside certification system, each battle rank you gain you get 1 cert point to spend, different certifications for different vehicles, armor and weapons are available at different cert values, the more battleranks you obtain, the more cert points you'll have, which allows you to invest in the more costly certifications, allowing more versatility to your character.
